Embed web pages, web sites, Flash, and more into Facebook fan pages!

Posted on 27 December 2011 by FBiframes

While we pride ourselves in offering a Facebook fan page customization service that’s easy and user-friendly for people with no technical experience, we realize that there are a lot of you who do have some technical knowledge (designers, programmers, developers) who just don’t want to deal with the Facebook application side of things (creating a Facebook Developer account, setting up actual Facebook apps through it, etc.), or want even more free reign than our DIY app offers.

An example of our Embed app in action.

The App

That’s why we’re introducing a new app today, simply called “Embed”. It’s a very simple app to set up, but that simplicity is also what makes it incredibly powerful. What our Embed app does is allows you to embed almost anything that’s on the internet, including web pages, web sites, Flash animations, images, and more.

It’s Easy

All you do on FBiframes.com is enter in the URL of whatever you want to be embedded onto the fan page, and that’s it! That’s right – with this app, developers can now build their own custom pages, forms, sites, and so much more, and have it work right in Facebook.

Limitless Possibilities

We are very excited about this app because it will open up a whole new world of possibilities and opportunities for not only the owners of fan pages, but also designers and programmers (developers). (Stay tuned for news on a design contest we’ll be having!)

App settings - just specify the URL of what you'd like displayed on your fan page and you're all set!

Example

For example, if you’re a developer, a business could contract you to build them a custom 2 page site to be displayed on their fan page. You would just create it in a directory on their website (or your own) at something like http://www.business.com/facebook/site/, and put all the html, images, css, etc. for that site into that directory (and sub-directories if you like to keep things organized). Once you have it looking and running as desired, just paste that URL into our Embed app and publish it to the business’s fan page. It’s that simple!

You control the HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. You can even use dynamic languages like PHP and ASP, to do forms, pull date from a database, and much more. And, since it’s hosted on your site, you have easy access to update it whenever and however you’d like.

One thing to note is that there is one main restriction with this, and it’s that the width that Facebook provides for custom content on fan pages is 520px wide. So, it’s advisable that whatever you embed is that width, or smaller (otherwise you’ll have scrollbars).

If you’re a developer, you can take advantage of this right now by offering it to your clients. The way our system works is as long as you’re made an administrator of a fan page, you can add apps to it. So, you can manage all your clients’ apps, pages, content, etc. on their behalf.

We also would like to start building a resource that helps connect developers with businesses who need work, so please contact us if you might be interested in this.

If you’re a business owner and would like the benefits of this app, but don’t have the technical resources to do it yourself or don’t know a developer, contact us and we’ll be happy to help you out!

Don’t send people to your fan page wall!

Posted on 22 December 2011 by FBiframes

Here’s a good question – why is a customized Facebook welcome page so important for branding your business on Facebook?

The wall on a fan page is an excellent place for businesses to interact with their fans, but sending a visitor directly into the fray of conversations isn’t normally a good idea. The visitor will have a difficult time orientating themselves, and can easily get lost in the discussions and miss the more important stuff – like being prompted to “Like” your fan page. It’s also often difficult to determine if you’re even on the correct fan page when you land directly on the wall. Branding, a welcome message, etc. are much better ways to convey your business to someone visiting your fan page for the first time.

The brands that really stand out have a landing page, and it’s a growing trend for major companies and businesses.

A good Facebook landing page should answer these questions:

  • Where am I?
  • What can I do here?
  • Why should I “Like” this page?

FBiframes offers an app called “DIY” that offers a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that allows designers, programmers and even beginners with some HTML knowledge and experience, to customize their brand’s Facebook fan page. Unlike our other apps where we offer specific places to put content, the DIY app allows you to add text/images/etc. wherever you’d like, and format it however you’d like.

Why use the FBiframes DIY app?

  • It allows novice web developers to get up and running quickly.
  • It gives the developer more “free reign” to set up the page however they’d like.
  • It allows the developer to focus more on the design and code, than on having to set up a Facebook developer account, create apps, etc.

What are the key components of FBiframes WYSISYG Editor?

  •  Create the page in Visual mode or HTML mode. (And switch between the two views on the fly.)
  • Upload images to our system, or host them yourself.
  • Easily format text (bold, italic, underline, justified, bullet points, etc) with the click of a button.
  • Choose from a variety of fonts, sizes, and even change the color of the text.
  • With the HTML mode, you can write your own HTML and format the page specifically to how you’d like!

How do I make a custom tab/page the landing page on my Facebook fan page?

The last step is to make your new page the one that visitors see first when they end up on your fan page. To do this:

1. On the wall of your fan page click on “Edit Page” button in the top right corner.

2. In the left hand column click “Manage Permissions”, and then click on the drop down box for “Default Landing Tab”.

Select which tab you’d like to make the landing page, and then click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom. That’s it!

One thing to note is that as an administrator of a fan page, the landing page will not apply to you (so don’t worry when you’re not taken to it yourself!).

Social Business 2012

Posted on 19 December 2011 by FBiframes

The Social Engagement Journey illustrates how organizations are slowly evolving from a traditional, command & control type of entity to a fully engaged, open and yes .. transparent unit where social processes and workflows are embedded internally within operations, support, marketing, HR, Supply Chain and everyone else.

This is a great look at the progression of how traditional tactics have evolved, and now have relationship progression within the sales cycle, and business as we know it.

excerpts from the great presentation by Chris Carfi

1) The Social Engagement Journey

The Journey is the recognizable progression of social engagement capabilities that a large enterprise goes through on its way to becoming a social businesses.

2) The Relationship Progression

While the “purchase funnel” has been well understood for years, there is a comparative dearth of conversation around how business relationships progress over time. A big tip of the hat to Dr. Michael Wu at Lithium and CRM maven Paul Greenberg for spurring the synthesis of these two previously unrelated (at least in my head) ideas.

3) The Social Engagement Matrix

A deep dive on the processes that come into play when customers and brands engage socially, especially when the two parties are at different relative points of view on the relationship.

Facebook Marketing Mistakes

Facebook Marketing Mistakes to Avoid

Posted on 19 December 2011 by FBiframes

Facebook marketing is on the rise amongst businesses, however, many of those businesses are still struggling to master the basics. Here are five common Facebook marketing mistakes to avoid:

1. Preaching or interacting…

Do not preach! You must provide your fans with content that is engaging on a consistent basis. Imagine a client being in front of you in person. How would you speak to them? Would you engage the client with un-genuine conversation? Then why would you think it’s ok to do it in your social media markting campaigns?

With Facebook, marketers of any size can do effective, word-of-mouth marketing at scale for the very first time. However, you have to be authentic because if you are not your fans will see right through it.

So as you plan your social media conversation, remember that fans are looking for a reason to connect, and they do that by clicking “Like”. Now your job is to give them reasons to stay.

Does your page needs likes? Check out two of our engagement apps:
Sweepstakes  /    Fan Only Coupons

2. We’ve built our fan page, that’s all we need to do…

Being a small business, have you ever put out a marketing campaign that immediately filled your store with “PAYING” customers? Don’t underestimate the time it takes to create a successful Facebook strategy. Something that is said often about the internet is “set it and forget it”, but that does not pertain to your Facebook marketing strategy.

If you are not engaging your clients, current or new, you can do irreparable harm to your businesses social media conversation. Creating your business fan page is just the first step in the process. You still need to invest the time to engage your clients.

3. Don’t put your fans to sleep…

Remember Facebook is a social media platform. That means that consumers are there to socialize and want to share things that are funny, interesting or useful with their friends. What kind of content would you want to share with your friends? These are the things that you want to post when you are planning your posts.  Use posts, links from other stories, and remember everyone loves funny videos.

Another key to your posts is to switch it up. Be sure to use all of the tools that Facebook offers and engage your fans with cool third party apps. Don’t cheat your community by auto-publishing from your blog or other social media feeds. It could hurt your efforts to build fans.

4. Failing to Learn About Facebook Mechanics and Tools

When talking to new clients, it’s imperative to their growth that they learn and understand the tools that Facebook and other social media platforms offer. The functionality of basic tools could create a better brand experience with your business’ social media conversation. A good way for small businesses to introduce their business is to create a customized “welcome page”.

Check out our new  Video Welcome Page app.

Many businesses forget how important the profile image can be. A cool feature is to customize a profile image (optimal size is 180 pixel wide * 540 pixel height) or just make sure you upload a image that the thumbnail is not cropped improperly, as that is how your business will be branded throughout Facebook.

Another valuable tool that most businesses should take advantage of is Facebook Insights. It is Facebooks analytics system that analyzes your posts / which posts get the most engagement from the community

5. Understand Facebook’s Terms of Service

Not only is it critical to know how Facebook works and what tools are available, it’s also important to know the rules of the platform—something that many businesses miss.

Everyday organizations endanger the community that they are nurturing by not following the terms of service they agreed to when they signed up for Facebook. The biggest one we see is that businesses are using a profile page not a Fan page.
