3 Tips for Using LinkedIn to Grow Your Business

Posted on May 13, 2013 by Toby Gonzales

LinkedIn is one of the best kept secrets in the social media world. While many companies focus their social media efforts on Facebook and Twitter, those that make the most of LinkedIn have found it to be a great tool for expanding their businesses. Here are some tips on how you can use this tool to your advantage.

1. Participate in LinkedIn Groups

LinkedIn is particularly beneficial because of its Groups feature.

By getting involved in Groups on LinkedIn, companies can increase engagement with customers and with other businesses. That means more traffic to your company website and a bigger overall audience on LinkedIn and potentially other social media sites.

In addition, you can use social media sites like LinkedIn to promote your expertise and your company’s specialties. On LinkedIn, demonstrating your company’s ability is particularly important because of the setting. In a forum of professionals, participation in Groups can be a great way to get your company noticed, and you can make important contributions in discussions that matter.

2. Leverage Endorsements

LinkedIn allows professionals to make endorsements of others, and you should use this new feature to your business’s advantage.

In the first place, making endorsements can be a good way to increase your company’s visibility with other professionals. When you confirm other people’s skills, you are expressing support for them and their brands. Those individuals will then be more likely to come to your account and engage with your content.

When you are making endorsements, though, it is important not to make recommendations when you aren’t sure they are true. Only make endorsements for individuals with whom you are familiar and confident that they actually have the skills advertised.

3. Stay Visible with Content

Visibility is always important in social media, and LinkedIn is no exception.

Of course, any time you are looking to grow your business by using social media, you should find ways to engage followers and other users in ways other than sharing your own content. It is of course important to promote your own business, but you should also think about how you can engage with other users’ content.

LinkedIn offers lots of opportunities to increase your company’s visibility. Group discussions are one way, and commenting on other companies’ content is another. Keep in mind that promoting other companies’ content can also help your company: You will improve your social media relationship with the other company, and you will some attention from the other company’s customers.
