How to embed Google Picasa in Facebook fan pages

Posted on 09 January 2012 by FBiframes

FBiframes’ Visual/HTML Editor app enables Google Picasa users to embed a slideshow, images, photos and photo albums into your Facebook fan page.

Embedding Picasa slideshows, albums, and images

Increase interaction with your businesses Facebook Fan page by embedding a Picasa slideshow, album, or image. All it takes is the small snippet of HTML that you then paste in the HTML view of your FBiframes apps admin dashboard.

Follow the steps below to get it:

Slideshow

You can embed a Flash slideshow of any web album. It’ll be automatically updated when you make changes to your album. Follow these steps to embed a slideshow:

  1. On the My Photos page, click your album.
  2. Click Link to this album on the right-hand side.
  3. Click Embed Slideshow.
  4. Choose your slideshow settings, such as image size, captions, and autoplay.
  5. Once you’ve chosen your settings, copy the resulting HTML code (Ctrl-C).
  6. Back in FBiframes admin Paste the HTML (Ctrl-V) in the HTML view for your fan page

Album

When you embed an album in your site, the album cover will display. Viewers who click the cover image will then be taken to view the album in Picasa Web Albums. Follow these steps to embed an album:

  1. On the My Photos page, click your album.
  2. Click Link to this album on the right-hand side.
  3. Copy the HTML (Ctrl-C) in the ‘Paste HTML to embed in website’ field.
  4. Back in FBiframes admin Paste the HTML (Ctrl-V) in the HTML view for your fan page

Image

Follow these steps to embed a Picasa Web Albums image in your site.

  1. On the My Photos page, click your album.
  2. Click the photo you’d like to embed.
  3. Click Link to this Photo on the right sidebar.
  4. Set the following preferences:
    • Select your preferred image size.
    • Select ‘Hide album link’ to remove a link to the containing album, which is displayed by default with the image.
    • Select ‘Image only (no link)’ to get the image URL by itself, with no link back to Picasa Web Albums.
  5. Copy the HTML (Ctrl-C) in the ‘Embed image’ field on the right-hand side.
  6. Back in FBiframes admin Paste the HTML (Ctrl-V) in the HTML view for your fan page

Design Tip:  Be sure to add a header image that will help your newly embedded PDF standout on your Facebook fan page tab. Upload a header image (520px wide) to the “Visual” tab in the WYSIWYG before you add the embed code from Scribd. Also remember to “Save” before you toggle between the “Visual Tab” and the “HTML Tab”

Embed web pages, web sites, Flash, and more into Facebook fan pages!

Posted on 27 December 2011 by FBiframes

While we pride ourselves in offering a Facebook fan page customization service that’s easy and user-friendly for people with no technical experience, we realize that there are a lot of you who do have some technical knowledge (designers, programmers, developers) who just don’t want to deal with the Facebook application side of things (creating a Facebook Developer account, setting up actual Facebook apps through it, etc.), or want even more free reign than our DIY app offers.

An example of our Embed app in action.

The App

That’s why we’re introducing a new app today, simply called “Embed”. It’s a very simple app to set up, but that simplicity is also what makes it incredibly powerful. What our Embed app does is allows you to embed almost anything that’s on the internet, including web pages, web sites, Flash animations, images, and more.

It’s Easy

All you do on FBiframes.com is enter in the URL of whatever you want to be embedded onto the fan page, and that’s it! That’s right – with this app, developers can now build their own custom pages, forms, sites, and so much more, and have it work right in Facebook.

Limitless Possibilities

We are very excited about this app because it will open up a whole new world of possibilities and opportunities for not only the owners of fan pages, but also designers and programmers (developers). (Stay tuned for news on a design contest we’ll be having!)

App settings - just specify the URL of what you'd like displayed on your fan page and you're all set!

Example

For example, if you’re a developer, a business could contract you to build them a custom 2 page site to be displayed on their fan page. You would just create it in a directory on their website (or your own) at something like http://www.business.com/facebook/site/, and put all the html, images, css, etc. for that site into that directory (and sub-directories if you like to keep things organized). Once you have it looking and running as desired, just paste that URL into our Embed app and publish it to the business’s fan page. It’s that simple!

You control the HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. You can even use dynamic languages like PHP and ASP, to do forms, pull date from a database, and much more. And, since it’s hosted on your site, you have easy access to update it whenever and however you’d like.

One thing to note is that there is one main restriction with this, and it’s that the width that Facebook provides for custom content on fan pages is 520px wide. So, it’s advisable that whatever you embed is that width, or smaller (otherwise you’ll have scrollbars).

If you’re a developer, you can take advantage of this right now by offering it to your clients. The way our system works is as long as you’re made an administrator of a fan page, you can add apps to it. So, you can manage all your clients’ apps, pages, content, etc. on their behalf.

We also would like to start building a resource that helps connect developers with businesses who need work, so please contact us if you might be interested in this.

If you’re a business owner and would like the benefits of this app, but don’t have the technical resources to do it yourself or don’t know a developer, contact us and we’ll be happy to help you out!
